Who Are The Singapore Special Forces?
The Singapore Special Operations Force, the SOF, is part of the Commandos arm of the Singapore army and consists of highly trained individuals that participate in elite special forces operations. They are trained to deal with strategic special operations, hostage taking and counter terrorism.
Their History
The SOF was formed in 1984 but has only been acknowledged as a special forces operation since 1997. They are a division of the Army and the number of those in the ranks is classified information. They originally began as a unit after a hijacking incident that turned out to be a false alarm. At that time, it was recognized that they needed to have a Special Forces team to deal with hostage rescue situations.
How To Become A Member Of The SOF
Members of the army can train to become members of this special unit. Although some wear the insignia of the SOF, most members prefer to keep this discreet.
SOF Training
In addition to practicing free-falling in all types of weather conditions and in all kinds of terrains, the SOF also trains with the United States military special forces including the Navy SEALS, the U.S. Rangers, the Green Berets the United States Delta Force. Their training is takes four years to complete and includes counter terrorism strategies, jungle warfare, amphibious assault, airborne assault and reconnaissance. All SOF members receive training in all types of equipment and weapons.
What Are They Best At?
The SOF is best at strategic special operations and counter terrorism. In war time, they specialize in special reconnaissance missions.
Weapons Of The SOF
Much of what the SOF use is classified information. Some of the weapons that are used include the M4 Carbine, SAR-21 Assault Rifle, FN P-90 submachine gun, MP5 submachine gun, and various shotguns and sniper rifles as well as the Vektor and SIG-Sauer pistols. In addition, they also use typical counter terrorism equipment that is generally used for intervention purposes including clearing rooms and breaching doors and locks.
Known Missions
One of the most widely known missions is Operation Thunderbolt, in which Pakistani militants hijacked an SIA Airbus on 26th March, 1991. Commandoes from the SAF ( Singapore Armed Forces) stormed the airbus and freed the 123 passengers and crew in an operation that lasted half a minute. The four hijackers were all killed by gunfire. No injuries to the hostages were reported and this was the first time a hijacking was thwarted by deadly force in Singapore. Despite the well publicized operation, the Ministry of Defense of Singapore did not acknowledge the existence of the group until 1997.
Units
Size and units are classified.
Are They Professional Soldiers?
Members of the SOF are professional soldiers and highly skilled in intelligence gathering, land, sea and air operations as well as counter-terrorism.

Who Was Madame La Force?
The American Civil War threw up a number of spies of both genders; and Madame La Force was a spy helping the Confederates.
On June 28, 1861 the Confederate vessel St Nicholas sailed out of Baltimore, Maryland carrying on board a somewhat strange passenger. The passenger, a foreign lady named Madame La Force kept the passengers and crew entertained by outrageously flirting with them. Her antics diverted their attention from other men who were embarking, bringing aboard what looked like military trunks and toolboxes.
Immediately the ship set sail, Madame La Force retired to her cabin from which she did not emerge till the vessel docked at Point Lookout on the southern tip of Maryland. The Madame emerged on deck and resumed her disgraceful flirting while some more men came aboard. Once more when the ship resumed its journey, she retired below decks. She reappeared shortly after the vessel sailed but this time had thrown off what was a disguise. She now emerged as a full-fledged, fully armed Confederate Colonel, Col Richard Thomas. He immediately took charge of the men who had come aboard as passengers. From the military trunks and boxes they unloaded weapons with which they rounded up the passengers and crew and placed them below decks under guard. The captain of the vessel was ordered to sail to Coan River where they were to pick up a Lt Lewis and his men. One of the men in the new contingent was a Confederate commander, George N. Hollins.
The St Nicholas in the normal course was scheduled to stop alongside the union warship Pawnee to collect mail and deliver supplies. When it was learned that the Pawnee had been diverted to Washington, Hollins order the captain to set course for Fredericksburg, Virginia. Enroute, Hollins and his men captured three union ships loaded with ice, coal and coffee all in short supply with Confederacy troops. Part of Hollins men sailed the captive ships to Fredericksburg while the Pawnee and her cargo was towed by the St Nicholas.
10 days later at Fredericksburg, Colonel Richard Thomas was captured and incarcerated, kept in solitary for two years. In a prisoner exchange he was released after which he fled to France never to return. Col. Thomas was a 'Zouave', one of the foreign soldiers who fought in the American Civil War.

The Celebration of Purmin
Purmin
Some may wonder what does the word purmin mean? Well the Bible explains purmin as meaning a day of celebration. Purim is not one of the feasts established by Mosaic Law, but it is still celebrated today by the Jewish people. In the Book of Esther (I recommend reading the whole chapter of Esther) it explains how Haman cast a lot, meaning pur, to choose a day for the annihilation of the Jews, it also explains how this celebration came about, and how God is faithful to his people. Let's see what the Bible says about purmin.
First look at Esther 3:2 it says All the royal officials at the king's gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor.
Now look at Easter 3:5 it says When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor, he was enrage. Yet having learned who Mordecai's people were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead Haman looked for a way to destrooy all Mordecai's people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes. In the twelfth year of King Xerxes, in the first month, the month of Nisan, they cast the pur (that is, the lot) in the presence of Haman to select a day and month. And the lot fell on the twelfth month, the month of Adar.
Then Haman said to King Xerxes, there is a certain people dispersed and scattered among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdon whose customs are different from those of all other people and who do not obey the king's laws; it is not in the king's best interest to tolerate them. If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them, and I will put ten thousand talents of silver into the royal treasury for the men who carry out this business.
So the king took his signet rig from his finger and gave it to Haman son Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews. Keep the money, the king said to Haman, and do with the people as you please. Verse 13 Dispatches were sent by couriers to all the king's provinces with the order to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews -young and old, women and little children-on a single day,, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, and to plunder their goods.
Look at Esther 6:1 it says That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicle, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him. It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's officer who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for this? the king asked. Nothing has been done for him, his attendants answered.
Now look at Verse 11 it says So Haman got the robe and the horse. He robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!
Look at Esther 7:1 it says So the king and Haman went to dine with Queen Esther, and as they were drinking wine on that second day, the king again asked Queen Esther, what is your petiton? It will be given you. What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be granted. Then the Queen Esther answered, if I have found favor with you, O king, and if it pleases your majesty, grant me my life-this is my petition, and my people have been sold for destruction and slaughter and annihilation. If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because no such distress would justify disturbing the king.
King Xerxes asked Queen Esther, Who is he? Where is the man who has dared to do such a thing? Esther said, The adversary and enemy it this vile Haman.
Verse 10 it says So they hanged Haman on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's fury subsided.
Now look at Esther 8:5 it says If it please the king, she said, and if he regards me with favor and thinks it the right thing to do, and if he pleased with me, let an order be written overruling the dispatches that Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, devised and wrote to destroy the Jews in all the king's provinces. For how can I bear to see disaster fall on my people? How can I bear to see the destruction of my family.
King Xerxes replied to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, Because Haman attacked the Jews, I have given his estate to Esther, and they have hanged him on the gallows. Now write another decree in the king's name in behalf of the Jews as seems best to you, and seal it with the king's signet ring-for no document written in the king's name and sealed with his ring can be revoked.
Verse 11 The king's edict granted the Jews in every city the right to assemble and protect themselves; to destroy, kill and annihilate any armed force of any nationality or province that might attack them and their women and children; and to plunder the property of their enemies.
Verse 16 it says For the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy, gladness and honor. In every province and in every city, wherever the edict of the king went, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating. And many people of other nationalities became Jews because fear of the Jews had seized them.
Look at Psalm 35:27 it says May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.
In closing look at Proverbs 11:10 it says When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
After reading the Book of Esther and from many experiences in my life, I can truly say the Lord is faithful to all his servants. No matter what the circumstances are he will be there and prevail for his children. He saves our lives each and everyday. What a joy and what a blessing!!! I hope that you are one of his servants, if not my prayer is that you become one and experience the joy.
Always Remember To Read Your Bible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Self Defense Items to Fight Crime
When people think of crime fighting, they think of one thing-a super hero like Batman, Spiderman, Superman et.al. They can certainly get it done. Next they think of local law enforcement.
I think the world of our men and women in law enforcement. They have my utmost respect. They deserve that for the risks they take every day. They are faced with challenges every day that make most cringe at the thought.
They are armed with deadly force and some non lethal self defense items to do their jobs. They face, as they call it, a "continuum" of challenges every day and need to be able to deal with them all. No small task to be sure!
If you have any doubts about the level of crime all you need do is watch the evening news. It seems from the reporting that is escalating. Maybe that just sells ads-I don't think so.
Law enforcement really can't stop a crime anyhow-just a fact especially with thinning resources. It is up to individuals to assume more responsibility for their own safety and develop a strategy for their own self defense. But you need some help. What do you do? Where do you turn?
How about this for some ideas.
1. Self defense DVD's are a way to learn some basic self defense techniques. They are teaching tools and can be a family project-to learn together. You can learn from some of the best instructors in the world right in your own living room. Self defense techniques are a great way to build your confidence as well.
2. Learn about stun guns, pepper sprays and tasers then make your purchase of the one(s) that best suit your needs. Then learn how to use them.
3. Practice using the self defense items you bought. Make their use second nature. Practice in different emergency scenarios. When and if the time comes you know exactly what to do instead of wondering what to do. Practice with a friend, neighbor, or your family so it becomes reflexive. In an emergency you really have no time to think and seconds count.
These ideas will increase your confidence and your actual ability to defend yourself and your family. Self confidence is a huge part of a personal security strategy.

Army Officer Promotion - How to Get Promoted in the Army National Guard
The purpose of this article is to give you basic information about officer promotions in the Army National Guard.
First and foremost, please realize that it's your job to manage your own career. Don't expect anyone else to do that for you. If you do, you will be disappointed and you won't have the military career that you could.
Listed below are a few steps to success.
1. Take tough jobs: Don't be the officer who always takes the easiest jobs. Look for positions that will challenge you and help you grow as a leader. If possible, stay at the "troop" level as long as possible.
2. Maintain Your Height/Weight and Physical Fitness: Stay in shape. Exercise on your own. Always pass the Army Physical Fitness requirements. This sounds like common sense, but many National Guard officers don't meet the physical fitness requirements. If you struggle in this area, hire a personal trainer. Do whatever it takes to maintain your fitness. You don't want to get passed over for promotion because you couldn't pass the physical fitness test.
3. Finish You Civilian and Military Education Requirements: If you haven't already finished your Bachelor's degree, get it done. You can't make Captain without it. Also, consider pursuing a Master's degree as a way to separate yourself from your peers. In terms of military education, complete your military education requirements for the next higher grade right now. Don't procrastinate. Identify the military education requirements for the next higher rank and get those requirements done immediately.
4. Keep track of OERs: Review your Officer Evaluation Reports. If you are missing any, get the problem fixed. When you are due an OER, communicate with your rater and senior rater to get it done. Also, make sure your OERs are profiled and filed into your IPERMS folder.
5. Position Yourself for Success: Always position yourself so you can get promoted as early as possible. For instance, if you will be eligible for promotion to Major in six months, you should start looking for a Major slot now. Don't wait for the DA promotion board. Strive to get vacancy promotions.
In summary, getting promoted in the National Guard is fairly easy. The secret to success is to be proactive and actively manage your own career. Take care of the little things and the big things will take care of themselves.

Helicopter Pilot Careers in the US Coast Guard
The U.S. Coast Guard has a long and proud tradition. The motto of the Coast Guard is Semper Paratus, which means Always Ready. The missions of the Coast Guard are varied. They include homeland security, law enforcement, search and rescue, marine environmental pollution response, national defense, and maintenance of river, intercoastal and offshore aids to navigation.
In order to complete this array of missions the Coast Guard makes extensive use of aircraft, especially helicopters. If you choose a career as a helicopter pilot in the Coast Guard you'll be able to fly at least one of the three helicopters described below.
The HH-65 Dauphin, built by Aerospatiale Helicopter Corporation, is the Coast Guard's short-range recovery rescue helicopter. The HH-65 is used in a variety of missions most notably drug interdiction, homeland security patrols, pollution control, search and rescue, law enforcement, resupply, and ice breaking. The HH-65 can be land based or based on board Coast Guard cutters. One of the more well known parts of the helicopter is its fenestron tail rotor which is a tail rotor totally enclosed within the fuselage of the helicopter. This provides a greater margin of safety when on the ground, reduced noise, and less vulnerability to foreign object damage. The HH-65 also has a very capable auto pilot that is able to automatically make a completely hands off approach to the water and establish a 50ft hover as well as fly programmed search patterns which allows the crew to take a more active role in the search. The Dauphin has a crew of four. Two pilots, a flight mechanic, and a rescue swimmer.
The HH-60 Jay Hawk, built by Sikorsky Helicopter, is the Coast Guard's medium range search and rescue helicopter. Like the Dauphin it's able to perform a wide variety of missions but unlike the Dauphin it does not deploy on Coast Guard Cutters, though it does have that capability. The Jay Hawk has a flight endurance of six hours and 30 minutes allowing it to remain at the scene of a rescue or other event for an extended period. The Jay Hawk has a crew of four. Two pilots, a flight mechanic and a rescue swimmer.
The MH-68A Sting Ray, built by Augusta, is the Coast Guard's all weather, short range, armed interdiction helicopter. The primary role of the Sting Ray is maritime drug interdiction and homeland security. A special unit within the US Coast Guard called the Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) flies the Sting Ray. The HITRON is the only US law enforcement agency trained and authorized to employ airborne use of force. HITRON's original mission was to interdict drug smugglers using high-speed boats known as "go-fasts". Their mission has been expanded to include homeland security putting them on the front lines of the war on drugs and the expanding war on terrorism. The MH-68 has a crew of three. Two pilots and a crewman/gunner.
A career flying helicopters for the Coast Guard can be very exciting and very fulfilling. If you have a strong desire to fly and to help others. Consider a career as a Coast Guard aviator.

Combat Boots Are No Longer Being Used Solely In The Military
Combat boots were originally designed for members of the armed services. They come in a wide variety of types, depending on what they are being used for. Usually, they are laced up above the ankles and stop around the middle of your shin. Some are designed for use in colder environments while others can be designed to have good ventilation as well as tougher soles. It is extremely important for members of the armed forces to have lightweight boots, because at times they are required to be quick on their feet.
Combat boots have become increasingly popular over the time of their existence. Not only for the members of the armed forces, but also for regular people as well. They are used in a fashion sense to make a statement about what type of person someone is. Goths, Punks, Neo-Nazis, and Skinheads are just a few of the types of people that have added combat boots to their type of fashion. This is definitely not the only people that choose to do this, others wear these types of boots as well. As you can see, this is a growing fashion trend targeting a wide array of different people.
Fashion isn't the only purpose some people choose to wear these military-style boots. Some will use them for a variety of activities that they participate in. This is because combat boots were designed and made to adapt to a number of changing environments. This can include terrain as well as weather conditions. Other reasons can include the durability of the boots and comfort.
The fashion sense of assault boots has been discovered in many different countries and used quite often. The most popular countries that have incorporated this into a certain culture's fashion includes the United Kingdom and the United States. These are only two of the countries that are actively using Army boots in a fashion trend. I'm quite positive that there are many other countries that do this as well. Teenagers have also shown high interest in these military-style boots. As you can see by now, there is no discrimination when it comes to the types of people wearing combat boots for everyday use.
Combat boots will most likely continue to be a fashion statement for people all around the world. The popularity has grown dramatically over the number of years. You can even see them being used at fashion shows. Assault boots are definitely not a cry for help, they are rather a taste of fashion and an advantage for use in changing environments. Simply take a look around the next time you head out into town, you will probably see at least one version of combat boots being worn. Men and women have become attracted to this unique taste of fashion.

Swiss Army Watch - Peerless Keeper of Time
The soldier released his parachute mid-air. He reaches the ground and wades through a murky swamp, making sure to raise his rifle above his head. He uses his compass to move towards the coordinates he was given. Then, he peers through his binoculars and sees the fortress that he and his battalion have to storm for a search and rescue mission. After surveying the place for a few minutes, he grabs the communications receiver attached his uniform belt and calls headquarters. They inform him that he and his battalion have to strike at exactly 16:00. The soldier looks at his wrist, only to discover that he had left his Swiss army watch at the base!
The Army, the Army!
Switzerland's military has the characteristics of both a regular army and a militia. It is probably best known for its up-to-date equipment, including Swiss army watches. The army's origins can be traced to the Old Swiss Confederacy's cantonal troops. This group had two functions: it may be called upon to help its own members, or to fight outside threats. These armies were later changed to a federal army. In the late 1980s, the size of the Swiss army began to shrink, and the trend continues to this day.
Pilot Your Way Through Life
Among all the Swiss armed forces, the Swiss Air Force is the smallest. Consequently, there is much competition to get positions as aircraft pilots. In fact, at the age of 16, parachutists and potential pilots must conduct training during their own spare time. One can join a unit of candidate pilots after finishing officer school and finishing basic training. Though you may not join the Swiss Army, you must practice or train hard for any type of position you wish to have. A Swiss army watch can assist you in this undertaking by ensuring that you keep appointments and follow schedules.
An Engineering Marvel
Soldiers training for Switzerland's military learn several practical lessons. Although they are far from begin boy scouts, the Swiss Army lives by the same rule. "Be prepared" is a mantra Swiss soldiers have to live out. It is thus not surprising that Swiss army items, such as the Swiss army watch, are engineered with the same mantra in mind. The Swiss army watch, like the Swiss Army itself, is ready for just about any blow or challenge. Designed to be durable, classy, and precise, the Swiss army watch is the very epitome of everything that's wonderful and amazing about Swiss engineering.
Keeping Time Uniquely
What makes a Swiss army watch so distinctive? The first is the workmanship. The Swiss, in general, are expert watchmakers. Switzerland is even touted as the watch-making center of the world. The Swiss are such excellent watchmakers, in fact, watchmaking is one of the country's oldest, if not the largest, industry. The Swiss government supports watchmaking in every way, including establishing schools and courses for training people in the craft of making Swiss army watches. Other reasons a Swiss army watch is on a league of its own include remarkable finish, durability, precision, and incredible attention to detail.
So, should you get your own Swiss army watch? The answer is a resounding yes. A Swiss army watch will not only help you keep track of of time, it will let you keep time accurately and uniquely.

Military Tattoo Designs - Tattoos For Soldiers and Others
Military tattoo designs have always been very common among those in the armed forces. Many people who have also lost loved ones that were in the military also honor them through a tattoo with a military design. In this article I want to tell you about military tattoo designs and where to find the best ones.
Perhaps the most well known military tattoo is the anchor symbol that is worn by many people who have served in the Navy. It is considered quite a tradition for someone either currently serving or someone who served in the past to display the anchor somewhere on their body.
The Navy is not the only branch of the military that uses tattoos frequently. Branches such as the Army, Marines, and Air Force also have signature tattoos that many people have. Usually these tattoos somehow involve the design of an American flag and an eagle.
Now, on to where you can find the best military tattoo designs for your next tattoo. Printable tattoo design databases have thousands of designs that can be browsed through and printed off whenever you want. All you have to do is join the database through its website and get access.
These printed out designs will be of the highest quality and your tattoo artist will enjoy working off of them. These databases eliminate a lot of wasted time that is usually used to find the perfect design and then get it printed. Plus, you can always go back and look for new designs when you seek to get a new tattoo.
I highly recommend using one of these services when looking for military tattoo designs. You will be happy with the results you see and the time you save by quickly finding the right design for you.

Military Housing - Buy a Home Using Your BAH
It's true: Military families sacrifice enough with the hectic lifestyle and financial hardship that sometimes accompanies a military career. There are far too many families in the armed forces who unknowingly sacrifice their financial future in addition to all the other sacrifices they make by not pursuing their dream of home ownership. In fact, many service members in the armed forces just don't realize their situation is not hopeless. There is a way to get out of the renting lifestyle and actually buy a home while in the military, and what's more - it can be paid for entirely by their Military Housing Allowance if the property BAH strategy is followed.
Of course, we all are aware that salaries in the military are not the best in the world. They are not competitive with the private sector on many levels - that's why they call it "service." As a results, it's often necessary to put all available resources to work on your behalf in order to qualify for a loan and make the payments. One of the best available resources is the BAH, which stands for the military's Basic Allowance for Housing, combined with a VA loan.
Use your BAH to buy a home
It is possible, especially in markets where real estate prices have eased significantly since the housing peak in 2006, to buy a home using your BAH. There are some basic rules that apply when you choose to receive a BAH housing allowance. The rules differ according to which branch of service you are in, but essentially, married personnel living off base are entitled to a housing allowance that goes a long way toward buying a home.
When military families are separated, or both spouses are members of the service, they may be able to qualify for even more of a loan to buy a house paid for by their BAH. While each branch of the military is slightly different in its rules, a real estate agent specializing in military relocation can help you navigate these rules and develop a strategy that is right for your family.
About BAH Rates
Basic Allowance for Housing rates fluctuate according to three main factors:
Dependent status
Pay grade
Location
If you know these two pieces of information, you can download the official military 2010 BAH rates table for free and determine how much money you have to apply toward qualifying for a VA home loand and making the monthly payments on it.
